What God is Doing Today

Have you heard what's happening? Although we've had to cancel traditional summer camp this year, camp isn't empty. Things are happening here every day. We have ten volunteer staff members who are diligently working to create online content for our campers, posting these videos to our Facebook and YouTube accounts. They range from fun, to educational, to inspirational in nature (usually a combination of the three). I'm telling you, if you haven't seen these videos, you should check them out. They are fantastic!

Aside from creating this online content, these staff members are also working hard to make some much-needed camp improvements. They, along with other volunteers, have given our swimming pool complex a face lift with fresh paint, repairs, and pressure washing. They've also done some great work with landscaping, groundskeeping, and trail maintenance. By the time this summer is over, SMCC is going to shine like a new penny.

These volunteer staff members are also preparing to take part in some outreach events in Shelby on July 23rd and August 6th, partnering with Hands on Missions. This is a great opportunity to us to connect with some of our campers from Cleveland County and to share the love of God and Good News of Jesus Christ with them.

On top of all this, these young men and women are meeting together every night for Bible studies. Together, we are looking into the scriptures to learn what it really means to be a disciple of Christ. We've chosen Isaiah 43:18-19 as our key verses for this summer. The Message Bible presents it this way, "Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it?" Although we have shed many tears over not having campers here, we don't want to be so focused on what we've lost that we miss what God is doing today. Our desire is to make the most of every opportunity He is bringing our way.

The hidden heroes through all of this are our supporters. Since we have no other source of income, the only way we are able to continue operating, even with volunteer staff, is because of the financial support of generous donors. If you would like to partner with us in ministry through your giving, you can do so with the donate button below or mail your donation to South Mountain Christian Camp, PO Box 9, Bostic NC 28018.
