Testimonies in the Making
“Every testimony begins with a test.” I know I heard Camp Founder O.A. Fish say those words dozens of times over the years. We’ve got plenty of testimonies here at South Mountain Christian Camp, because we’ve been through plenty of tests, and the Lord has carried us through each one.
Last month was no exception. We faced a water supply problem that affected nearly every building on camp, but God connected us with a plumber who was able to fix the issue in short time. We struggled to fill our staff positions, but God came through with the right people just days before staff training began. We encountered food supply shortages from our distributor, but God enabled us to find what we needed from other sources. Just before the first day of camp, one of our cabin leaders was injured in a serious car accident, but God preserved his life and provided another staff member to fill his role. A tree branch fell and damaged the roof of one of our cabins, but God helped us to get it repaired within just a couple of hours.
The stories go on and on. Sickness, injuries, vehicle breakdowns, and facility damage continue to test our faith, and every story ends with the same testimony: “but God.”
During all of this, the Lord is moving mightily in the hearts and lives of our campers. We’ve ministered to children who are orphans, in foster care, or have imprisoned parents. I’ve prayed with campers who are facing bullying at school, struggling to believe in God, or burdened for their drug-addicted family.
These stories have the same ending too: “but God.” Many of these precious ones have opened their hearts to Jesus and put their faith in Him. Hearts are changed, souls are set free, and pain is healed. The test has given way to the testimony.
