Superheroes

Superheroes don’t always wear capes. I can write this with confidence, because I know some of them, like Kirk Wilkerson. This friend and supporter recently took on a 50-mile endurance challenge to raise money for South Mountain Christian Camp. He saw that the Covid restrictions have placed a significant financial burden on this ministry, so last month he raised over $3,200 as he ran and walked 50 miles in a single day. I joined him for just a few of those miles, but Kirk kept going. All. Day. Long.

It's also important to note that Kirk is battling a cancer called Multiple Myeloma, but he doesn’t let it stop him. He’s already taken on Everest and the Boston Marathon. In my book, he is a hero.

Kirk is just one example of many people who are helping SMCC make it through a very difficult year. This month, we’ve got a number of events that will help too.

  • Our pumpkin patch fundraiser is going all through October. You can bring your family to pick your favorite pumpkins, take some photos, and enjoy the hiking trails.

  • On October 24th, we are holding a Tractor Show fundraiser. We’ll have a variety of farm equipment on display, along with vendors and activities for the kids.

  • On October 31st, we’ll host our annual South of the Mountain Trail Run. This 5k race will be a little different this year, but it’s still a great time to run or walk the camp trails and support SMCC. We’re adding a costume contest too, just for fun. So, you may even see some superheroes running through the trails that day.

Heroes come in all ages, shapes, and sizes. Most of them never appear on TV, a stage, or in the newspaper, but they are making a difference. They are making the world a better place.

Among these are our supporters, like Kirk. To all of us connected with South Mountain Christian Camp, they are the bright spot of 2020. No words can express how thankful we are to those who have continued to support this ministry through their giving this year. God is working powerfully through them to sustain His work here in Bostic, North Carolina.

If you would also like to partner with us through your giving, you can give through the donate button below, or mail your donation to South Mountain Christian Camp, PO Box 9, Bostic NC 28018.
