Dust

There was a lot of dust to clean up last month. Some areas of camp had not been used in nearly two years, and the dust was thick enough to leave footprints behind when you walked through them. I may be exaggerating, but there was definitely plenty of cleaning to do. We took on the challenge with enthusiasm, because we understood what this means—the campers are coming!

In the Bible, Hannah sang about dust after she gave birth to Samuel. She had been barren and prayed desperately for a child. When Samuel was born, Hannah offered a song of thanks to the Lord saying, “He raises the poor from the dust, He lifts the needy from the ash heap to make them sit with nobles…”

I smiled when I read those words because they reminded me of camp. So many of our campers are poor and needy. South Mountain is a place where they can leave the poverty behind and be treated like royalty. Here they are valued, loved, and cared for equally—no matter what their home situation may be.

So, we clean up the dust to make things ready for these precious ones. Like Hannah, we rejoice because we know that these barren cabins will soon be filled once again with rowdy laughter and joy.

Reaching out to the poor and needy would not be possible without our financial supporters. Partnering together, we are opening up opportunities to once again “let the little children come” to Jesus. If you would like to partner with us in ministry this summer, you can make a contribution through the Donate button below, or mail your donation to PO Box 9, Bostic NC 28018.
