The Support We Need

Sometimes you just don’t have the right tools for the job, and that can be frustrating. With 250 acres of land and over thirty buildings at South Mountain Christian Camp, there are always maintenance items that need attention. From cutting up fallen trees and grading roads to repairing toilets and welding basketball goals, the jobs come in all forms and sizes. Having the right equipment on hand can make a huge difference, especially since a quick trip to the nearest hardware store will take at least an hour out of the day.
Last month, God brought an unexpected blessing to us which is sure to benefit SMCC for many years to come. A longtime supporter named John called to let me know that he had a garden tractor and some other equipment he wanted to donate to the camp. David, our head of maintenance, and I drove to John’s house, bringing our largest truck and our trailer with the hope that there might be enough equipment to fill both. We were wrong.
John donated enough equipment to fill three trucks and trailers! In addition to the tractor which had mower, tiller, blade, and snow blower attachments, John donated a wood chipper, a generator, two table saws, a canoe and kayak, a trailer, a storage cabinet, and dozens of other items too numerous to list here. David and I were stunned. It was absolutely incredible to see God move so effectively and unexpectedly to meet our needs. Now, as we head toward our 44th summer of ministry at SMCC, we are much better equipped to get this place ready for the 600 children who will attend camp this summer.
We can never fully express how much we need and appreciate our supporters. We simply could not do this without these people backing us. Whether they give cash, equipment, or time, the support we receive encourages us and enables us to continue reaching children for Christ.
