Breaking Through

Have you ever seen a bullet break through a thick wall of ice? We saw it happen here last month as we neared the end of our summer camp program. The wall of ice was a protective barrier the girls in cabin four had built up around their hearts, and the bullet that broke through was the personal testimony of their cabin director.
For most of the week, this group was bombarded with a combination of personal issues and incompatibility. Arguments were constantly breaking out, and it seemed that everyone hated each other.
The cabin director, Eve-Liina, was at the end of her rope. She had tried everything to persuade them to get along, but nothing worked.
On Thursday morning, however, she shared her story about how God had reached her at her lowest point and brought change into her life. God spoke through her in that moment as she poured her heart out to her campers.
Like an earthquake leveling an entire city, the walls that these girls had built around their hearts were reduced to rubble. As the barriers fell, so did the weapons of malice, jealousy, and anger.
The campers began to open up to each other about their own struggles. God moved in their midst, touching their hearts and minds. They prayed together, and for the rest of the camp week, they were an entirely different group. Eve-Liina saw them change right before her eyes.
Encounters like these remind us that God is capable of reaching those that seem unreachable, and He can use ordinary people like me and you to do it. If you are dealing with a difficult relationship, pour on the love. It you're having a hard time getting through to someone, open up to them. If you've built walls around your own heart to protect yourself from the pain of the past, maybe it's time to let the love of God break through.
