You Never Know

When I knelt down at the front of the church to pray on a Wednesday night in the Spring of 1992, I had no idea that the entire course of my life was about to change. As I prayed, I was suddenly interrupted by God. It wasn’t an audible voice, but in my soul it was just as clear: “Go to Uplift Mountain.”
Two years earlier, at the age of fifteen, I’d spent my summer at this camp in Colorado. Now, on the verge of finishing high school, my parents had taught me to discern the voice of the Lord, and it had never been more clear to me than it was in that moment. I eagerly gave up the money I’d been saving for a Jeep to join the staff at the camp that year.
That summer changed my life. I often tell people that I fell in love with two things at Uplift Mountain: camp ministry and a beautiful young lady named Jennifer. As a result, 24 years later, Jen and I are approaching our 22nd wedding anniversary as we begin our 19th year here at South Mountain Christian Camp.
Camp changes lives, but not just for the campers. Every year we see our summer staff members undergo dramatic change in their lives as they mature in their faith and heed the voice of the Lord. Many of our former summer staff are now working in full-time or part-time Christian service. Missionaries, youth pastors, and even a few in camp ministry first heard the call of God on their lives during their summer here.
Right now, we’re in the process of assembling our team for this summer, and I’m more excited than ever at who God is going to send our way. If you, or someone you know, might be interested, you can get more information and apply online here.
