The Rest of the Story

I love it when a story comes full circle. Last month we shared Eve-Liina’s testimony in a large mailing throughout Rutherford County (You can view it here). As a young child, her parents were going through a divorce, she had lost most of her friends, and she was being bullied at school. It was during this time that she came to camp and fell in love with Jesus. God brought healing to Eve-Liina and her family, and this year she is serving as one of our cabin directors, hoping to share that same healing love of God with the girls under her care.

Last week, Eve-Liina took the opportunity to share her testimony with her cabin group. Two of her campers, Sunshine and Bethany, connected with the story right away. These two had been mostly shy and quiet during the camp week. They were kind and considerate, but they seemed somewhat withdrawn. When they heard Eve-Liina’s story, they spoke up, sharing that they were going through a similar experience at home. These young girls were carrying a tremendous burden of fear and pain caused by their family situation. The testimony of God’s healing gave them hope, and they asked Eve-Liina to pray that God would do the same for them. Together the three of them prayed that their family would be restored, and even more so that God would fill the girls with the love, joy, and peace that can only come from Him.

From that point forward, the girls were completely different campers. With their burden gone, they embraced all the fun, companionship, and delight of summer camp. They came alive with exuberance and cheerfulness like flowers blooming at dawn into full radiance. At the end of the camp week, they said goodbye to Eve-Liina with mixed emotions. They shared a special bond and didn’t want to leave her, but they were ready to move forward with Jesus into the next step of their life’s journey.

Encounters like these are happening every week at camp this summer. You can help us make a difference for kids like Sunshine and Bethany by sponsoring them to camp where they experience the love of God in a more powerful way than they ever expected. For more details click here.
